Dynamic Web Sites Deconstructed

I've just returned from the PLA Symposium and happy to be back in sunny Arizona! The symposium went well for lots of folks that I spoke with. Dale Atkins (Kent Library District) and I presented on dynamic library web sites. If you're reading this and attended the presentation I would love to hear your feedback. Either through posts on this site or directly through email at paulawilson@mcld.maricopa.gov.

There were lots of excellent questions, but the one that stumped me was how does a small library create something along the scale of some of the libraries that were demonstrated today. So, I've been thinking about that one all day...What about you? Maybe this is where the ILS vendors step in by creating the next gen library catalogs--or library portals that not only encompass the collection but other library services and info. That is really what we have here at Maricopa in GIS Infosystem's PowerPac. In fact, we don't even maintain a separate library web sites. We have some user defined pages that we've created, but for the most part we use the portal.

Also, the presentation is available here: http://www.webliography.org/links.htm. The file is HUGE so beware! If you have any question about the information I presented please do ask.

You can also find resources on creating Web sites at the link above.
