Bringing Patrons Along: Promoting Online Databases

School-aged kids expects high-tech, online, 24/7 research. In fact, they'd accept nothing less. They will grow up never having memories of pulling library catd catalog drawers, winding through reems of microfilm or sorting through musty newspaper print. But what about those GenXers (born 1965-1981) whose last memory of a public library is caught in between the pages of the Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature and the yellowed cards of a library card catalog. Baby Boomers and others born earlier than 1943 who have not been using libraries may not know that libraries are much user-friendly and offer the ease of accessing many materials, once only available in print, from home via the Internet and their library card number. You may use the images below to illustrate the traditional library materials and their online equivalents. Enjoy!
